(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders aim for their third consecutive victory this evening, as they visit the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center.
The Islanders beat New Jersey in a shootout on Thursday before defeating the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Chris Campoli scored the game-winner midway through the third period in Saturday's contest to help New York pick up the 4-2 win.
Mark Parrish and Jason Blake registered a goal and an assist apiece and Rick DiPietro made 19 saves for the Isles, who have won three of their last four games.
The Capitals have dropped two straight and are coming off Saturday's overtime loss in Atlanta. Marian Hossa scored 1:49 into the extra session to lead the Thrashers to the 3-2 victory.
Alexander Ovechkin added to his strong rookie campaign with a goal and an assist and Brian Willsie scored for the Capitals, who have lost six of their last seven games. Olaf Kolzig stopped 31 shots in the loss.
Ovechkin leads all rookies with 39 goals and 73 points. Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby is second among first-year players with 66 points.
The Capitals, who are 13-14-4 as the host this year, begin a five-game homestand tonight.
The Isles are 2-0 against the Caps this season and have won four in a row overall in the series. New York has also won in its last two trips to the nation's capital.
