(Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers try to snap their five-game losing streak tonight when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at the Office Depot Center.
The Panthers were handed a 3-0 setback by the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday evening at the Office Depot Center.
Dany Heatley scored twice and Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves for his first career shutout to lead Atlanta.
Steve Shields finished with 16 saves for the Panthers, who are in the midst of their worst losing streak since dropping five straight from March 19-27 of last season.
Florida has four games remaining in the season, including Wednesday's tilt against the Ottawa Senators.
The Hurricanes played the role of spoiler on Saturday night, as they posted a 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders are trying to clinch the final postseason berth in the Western Conference.
Kevin Weekes made 16 of his 36 saves in the third period to lead Carolina to the victory.
Allan Rourke and Sean Hill both scored in the first period for the Hurricanes, who earned their second straight victory. Jaroslav Svoboda added a goal in the win.
The Hurricanes have three games remaining and will host Boston on Tuesday night.
Carolina is 2-1-1 against the Panthers this season and 9-5-3 in the last 17 meetings. However, the Hurricanes have dropped four straight in Sunrise.
