Carolina Hurricanes (27-31-13-6) at New York Islanders (36-27-10-4), 7 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders continue their push for a playoff berth tonight when they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Nassau Coliseum.
New York has 86 points and is six ahead of Buffalo for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.
The Islanders picked up a victory in Philadelphia on Thursday night. Adrian Aucoin scored two goals and rookie goaltender Wade Dubielewicz made 14 saves in his first NHL game to lead New York to the 4-2 victory at the Wachovia Center.
Dubielewicz was called into action after Garth Snow left with a groin injury and turned aside all 14 shots he faced through two periods for the Islanders, who won their fourth straight game.
Regular starter Rick DiPietro, on the heels of two straight shutouts, sat out because of the flu. Snow, though, left after the first period and allowed two goals on six shots. DiPietro is expected to start tonight's game.
Mark Parrish and Janne Niinimaa each added a goal for New York, which has captured six of its last seven and is now within four points of Montreal for the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
New York visits the New Jersey Devils on Sunday evening at the Meadowlands.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, are coming off a victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday. Josef Vasicek's goal with 11:51 remaining in the third period lifted Carolina to a 3-2 win.
Arturs Irbe stopped just 19 shots for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Vasicek ripped a blast from the left circle, beating goalie Roberto Luongo for the game-winner for Carolina.
It was the first of three matchups between these teams over the final 11 days of the regular season. Carolina will visit the Panthers on Monday night.
The Islanders have won three of the last four meetings with Carolina. However, the Hurricanes have taken three of four and four of its previous six tests on Long Island.
