NHL Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, December 19th (All times eastern)

New Jersey Devils (17-6-7-0) at Buffalo Sabres (12-17-2-1), 8 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres try to avoid their seventh straight loss tonight when they welcome the New Jersey Devils to HSBC Arena.

The Sabres' latest setback came on Tuesday night against the Penguins at Mellon Arena.

Konstantin Koltsov scored the game-winner with less than 15 minutes left in the third period, as Pittsburgh earned a 2-1 win. Mika Noronen made 24 saves for the Sabres, as Buffalo remained winless in its last six games in Pittsburgh (0-5-1).

Sabres center Chris Drury suffered a separated right shoulder during the contest and will most likely be out of the lineup for at least a week.

Tonight's contest begins a three-game homestand for Buffalo, which is 6-7-1-1 at HSBC this season.

The Devils are coming off a 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday evening. Martin Brodeur made 15 saves for his league-best eighth shutout of the season, leading New Jersey at Philips Arena.

Rob Skrlac scored his first NHL goal for New Jersey, which bounced back from Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Islanders and improved to 5-1-1 in its last seven. Colin White and Scott Gomez also found the net in the victory.

The Devils, 8-2-4 as the visitor, close out their five-game road trip on Sunday night in Chicago.

New Jersey has 41 points and trails Philadelphia by four points for first place in the Atlantic Division.

The Devils are unbeaten in the last eight meetings (5-0-3) with the Sabres, but have just one win in their eight previous trips (1-4-3) to Buffalo.
