Washington Capitals (9-19-1-1) at Atlanta Thrashers (16-12-3-1), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers try to push their home winning streak to four games tonight when they welcome the Washington Capitals to Philips Arena.
The Thrashers have 36 points and are in first place in the Southeast Division, while the last-place Capitals find themselves 16 points behind Atlanta.
Atlanta is coming off a 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night. Trent Hunter's goal set-off a flurry of four unanswered third-period tallies, as the Islanders broke open a scoreless game.
The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Thrashers. Pasi Nurminen turned aside 25 of the 28 shots he faced in defeat, including 14 in a fast- paced first period.
The Thrashers, who are an impressive 10-5-2 on home ice this season, welcome New Jersey to town on Thursday night.
Washington was dealt a 5-1 pounding by the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday evening. Pavel Datsyuk scored twice and added two assists as the Red Wings rolled to the easy win at the MCI Center.
Jaromir Jagr scored the lone goal for the Capitals, who are now 1-1 under new head coach Glen Hanlon. Hanlon took over when sophomore bench boss Bruce Cassidy was fired earlier in the week.
Olaf Kolzig made 21 saves for Washington, which has dropped four of its last five games.
The Capitals, 5-12-1 on the road, will visit Florida on Wednesday.
These teams have already met twice this season with both matchups coming in Washington. The Thrashers picked up a 4-3 win on October 11, while the Caps earned a 2-1 victory on Halloween night.
Washington has lost just twice in the last 11 meetings (7-2-2) and is 2-1-1 in its last four trips to Atlanta.
