Phoenix Coyotes (5-6-4-1) at Columbus Blue Jackets (5-9-1-1), 5 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Columbus Blue Jackets try to halt a three-game winless string tonight when they host the Phoenix Coyotes at Nationwide Arena.
Columbus' latest setback occurred on Friday, as the Blue Jackets were blanked, 4-0, by Felix Potvin and the Boston Bruins at Nationwide Arena.
The Blue Jackets, who have lost two straight and are 0-2-1 in their last three, were outshot 14-3 in the opening period and allowed all four goals in the stanza.
Fred Brathwaite replaced Mar Denis after the first intermission and stopped all seven shots fired his way in the second period and six more in the third. Denis stopped just 10 of the 14 shots sent his way.
The Blue Jackets, who are third in the league on the power play, finished 0- for-3 with the man-advantage on Friday and have cashed in on just two of their last 15 chances with the extra skater.
Columbus played without centers Espen Knutsen and Todd Marchant. Knutsen suffered a hip pointer in Thursday's game against Ottawa and was placed on injured reserve, while Marchant had the flu, but could play today.
The Blue Jackets, who are 5-3-0 at home this season, will start a home-and- home series in Detroit against the Red WIngs on Wednesday. '
Phoenix, meanwhile, comes into tonight's contest riding a two-game unbeaten streak after Jan Hrdina;s goal with less than a minute left in the third period on Friday helped the Coyotes skate to a 3-3 tie with the Dallas Stars at AmericanAirlines Center.
Radoslav Suchy had a goal and an assist for Phoenix, which played its fourth straight overtime game (2-0-1-1) after enduring a nine-game winless streak.. Krystofer Kolanos had two assists and Brian Boucher made 32 saves for the Coyotes.
After Rob DiMaio gave the Stars a one-goal lead midway through the final stanza, Hrdina redirected a centering pass from Ladislav Nagy past Turco with 50 seconds left in the third period to force the extra session.
Despite Boucher's 3-0-2 career record against Columbus, Sean Burke is expected to be between the pipes tonight.
Phoenix was 2-1-1 against the Jackets last season and is 5-1-1 against them in their last seven meetings. The Coyotes, though, have dropped four of their last six in Columbus.
