(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Kings will take their brief winning streak to the road this evening, when they take on the St. Louis Blues from the Scottrade Center.
Los Angeles will kick off a six-game road trip against the Blues, Islanders, Rangers, Red Wings, Blue Jackets and Stars, and is coming off Thursday's 6-3 victory versus the Minnesota Wild at Staples Center. Ryan Smyth ended with two goals and an assist for the Kings, who went 2-1 on a season-opening three-game homestand.
Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar both finished with a goal and two assists, as Los Angeles got solid work from netminder Jonathan Quick, who ended with 26 saves. Michal Handzus and Teddy Purcell also scored in the win.
"The team came out and played real well in the first period, a lot of good plays, were showing good composure, passing the puck, attacking with a lot of speed," said Kings head coach Terry Murray.
St. Louis will close out a three-game residency tonight that includes a credited home game in Sweden and suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday, as it was handed a 4-2 loss by the Atlanta Thrashers.
Keith Tkachuk had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who had bested Detroit twice in Stockholm last weekend to start the campaign. Roman Polak also scored and goaltender Chris Mason allowed three goals on 21 shots in the setback.
"You've got to get yourself ready to play and find a way to motivate yourself to go out and play within the system that we've played in the second half of both games in Sweden," Tkachuk said.
Los Angeles went 3-1 against St. Louis last season and has won four of the last six meetings.
Quick has lost his only career start versus the Blues, though he gave up just two goals on 23 shots.
Mason, meanwhile, is 5-2-0 with a tie and 1.66 GAA in 10 games in his career versus the Kings, all but two of those starts.
