Detroit Red Wings (19-4-4) at Dallas Stars (10-134), 8:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings try for their third five-game winning streak of the season tonight in a battle with the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center.
The Red Wings have posted five-game win streaks in each of the previous two months this season, doing so from October 18-27 and November 13-22. They will try to match those season-high runs tonight in their first meeting with Dallas this season since the Red Wings topped the Stars in six games in last season's Western Conference finals.
Detroit, which went on to win the Stanley Cup, won three of its four games with the Stars last year, outscoring them 12-5. The Red Wings have also won seven of the last nine in the series and three of four in Dallas.
Detroit plays the first of two straight on the road and is coming off a 4-3 overtime win on Wednesday versus Calgary. Nicklas Lidstrom gave his team the victory on a goal with 1:10 left in the extra frame.
Valtteri Filppula and Henrik Zetterberg both scored in a second straight game, while Brian Rafalski also tallied for Detroit, which wrapped a four-game homestand perfect but has lost two straight on the road, where it is 10-2-2 this season.
Daniel Cleary had two assists to give him two goals and five assists over his last four games.
Ty Conklin earned his eighth win of the season with a 29-save performance.
The Stars have lost two of three since winning back-to-back games for the first time this season. Their latest setback came on Wednesday, a 5-3 defeat against Phoenix.
Fabian Brunnstrom, James Neal and Trevor Daley each scored once for the Stars, while Marty Turco stopped 29 shots in the loss. Toby Peterson added a helper to give him three goals and two assists over a five-game point streak.
Turco lost two of three to the Red Wings last year and has struggled against them in his career, going 2-10-0 with five ties and a 2.88 GAA.
Already without Brenden Morrow (knee), Joel Lundqvist (shoulder), Jere Lehtinen (upper body) and Steve Ott (hand), the Stars placed veteran defenseman Sergei Zubov on injured reserve due to a hip injury.
The 38-year-old Zubov has missed the last five games as he continues to recover from hip surgery, which caused him to miss all of training camp and the season's first 12 contests. A three-time All-Star, Zubov has recorded four assists in 10 games this season.
Dallas is 4-5-3 at home this year and wrap a three-game residency tonight.
