NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Edmonton

(Tuesday, February 3rd)

Final Score: Chicago 3, Edmonton 1

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Cristobal Huet was solid with 20 saves and Dave Bolland was one of three Chicago goal scorers, as the Blackhawks downed the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1, at Rexall Place.

Cam Barker and Martin Havlat also scored for Chicago, which has won three of its last four games overall. Havlat and Bolland also both added an assist in the win.

"We liked the way we played," said Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville. "We had the puck a lot."

Ethan Moreau tallied the lone goal for the Oilers, who fell to 1-3-0 since a three-game win streak in late January. Dwayne Roloson allowed three goals on 41 shots in the losing effort.

"We couldn't handle the speed. The speed of the checking," said Edmonton head coach Craig MacTavish. "They got to us in our defensive zone. They moved their feet well and we couldn't stop them."

Barker's power-play goal 3:06 into the second period tied the score at 1-1. The visitors were skating on the power play due to an interference call on Moreau, and Brian Campbell sent a pass from the left half-wall to the centerpoint, where Barker ripped home a one-timer for his fourth goal of the season.

With 3:48 to play in the middle stanza, the Blackhawks took the lead for good on Bolland's 10th goal of 2008-09. Bolland held control above the right circle, faked a slap shot to force the defender to the ice, drifted toward the high slot and released a blazing slap shot that beat Roloson.

Midway through the third period, Havlat's 16th marker put the visitors ahead by two. Havlat's body was behind the goal line next to the right post, and he banked the puck off the pads of Roloson and it caromed into the back of the cage with 10:10 remaining in regulation.

Huet stopped all eight shots he faced throughout the third period and the Chicago defense held off the Edmonton offensive threats the rest of the way.

The Oilers grabbed a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Moreau was stationed along the rear boards to the right of the net and sent the puck via a backhander toward the crease area. The puck took a strange turn and ended up bouncing off of Campbell, then off of Huet's helmet and over the goal line. The fluke goal -- Moreau's 12th tally of 2008-09 -- occurred at the 4:48 mark and was assisted by Tom Gilbert.
