Final Score: Nashville 2, Phoenix 1
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Pekka Rinne stopped 29-of-30 shots as the Nashville Predators held on to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes, 2-1, at Sommet Center.
Jason Arnott and Radek Bonk scored for the Predators, who have won three of their last four games. Dan Hamhuis, Kevin Klein, Joel Ward and Vernon Fiddler all recorded an assist in the win.
Joel Perrault scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who have dropped four straight games. Ilya Bryzgalov yielded two goals on 24 shots in the loss.
Trailing 2-0 with 15:20 left in the game, Perrault got past Nashville's Shea Weber, which left him with just the goaltender to beat. Perrault went to the right and then sharply cut back at the net, which allowed him to slide the puck past Rinne on a backhander for his first tally of the season.
Prior to Perrault's goal, the Coyotes hadn't scored since late in the second period versus the Ducks last Tuesday. This totaled to be a span of 187 minutes and 16 seconds between goals.
Phoenix pulled Bryzgalov for the extra skater with just over a minute left, but Bonk and the Nashville defense corps preserved the win.
The Predators opened a 1-0 lead only 2:50 into the contest, as Arnott scored on a backhander off a rebound. The remainder of the opening frame was scoreless, and the period overall went without a single penalty. Despite not getting on the scoreboard, Phoenix outshot the Predators 10-8 in the frame.
The Predators capitalized on a 2-on-1 opportunity 45 seconds into the second to go ahead 2-0. Bonk carried the puck down the right side of the ice with Ward on the opposite wing. Bonk decided to take things into his own hands by drilling a shot over the left shoulder of Bryzgalov.
