Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 35 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season as the Phoenix Coyotes snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the St. Louis Blues at Jobing.com Arena.
Zbynek Michalek and Joel Perrault both scored for Phoenix, which improved to 14-14-3 at home this season. Keith Ballard and Steve Reinprecht each added an assist in the victory.
Manny Legace allowed two goals on 20 shots for St. Louis, which finished a winless three-game road trip.
After a scoreless first period, in which the Blues outshot the Coyotes, 18-5, Michalek broke through for Phoenix 4:27 into the second stanza, blasting a one-timer from the slot past Legace for the 1-0 Coyotes lead.
St. Louis peppered Bryzgalov with 27 shots through the first 40 minutes, but the Coyotes netminder stopped them all to preserve the 1-0 edge heading to the third period.
Perrault put the Coyotes up 2-0 with 7:57 left in the third. Just seconds after a Phoenix power play expired, Ballard blasted a shot from the point that was blocked, but picked up in the slot by Perrault and stuffed through Legace's five-hole to give Phoenix a comfortable cushion down the stretch.
The Coyotes killed of a 6-on-4 power play with Legace pulled for an extra attacker in the final minute to lock up Bryzgalov's first shutout since November 17, 2007.
Neither team converted on the power play, the Coyotes were 0-for-5, while the Blues went 0-for-6...Reinprecht's assist was his 27th of the season...Phoenix has now won all three meetings this season and eight of the last nine dating back to January 2006...The Coyotes can complete a season sweep when the teams meet Thursday in St. Louis.
