NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Tampa Bay

(Thursday, January 31st)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 4, Vancouver 3

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Brad Richards had a goal and two assists as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3, at St. Pete Times Forum.

Martin St. Louis had three assists while Karri Ramo stopped 23 shots for the Lightning, who snapped a two-game slide.

"It was a fun game to be a part of, a lot of emotion," said Richards. "Both sides were really battling and I think throughout the game we played a lot of different ways and got it done. We had to come from behind, we had to protect the lead and it was a good overall team effort."

Taylor Pyatt had a goal and an assist while Roberto Luongo finished the game with 23 saves in the loss for the Canucks, who have dropped two straight and six of seven.

"I really think it was a really hard-fought game by both hockey teams tonight," said Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault.

Vancouver got on the board just 2:41 in on Luc Bourdon's second goal of the season.

Tampa Bay, though, got the goal back on the power play at the 7:56 mark. Vinny Prospal had the disc at the low left side and attempted to pass it out front, but it hit off the skate of a Vancouver player and into the net.

However, the Canucks took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission as Pyatt's quick shot from the slot flew over the glove of Ramo with 3:36 remaining.

The Lightning tied the game at the 3:12 mark of the second period as Chris Gratton's shot from the left circle beat Luongo through the five-hole.

Vincent Lecavalier gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead with 3:21 left in the middle period as he knocked a bouncing puck out of the air in the slot and it went past Luongo for his 31st goal of the season.

Richards gave Tampa Bay some breathing room at the 8:34 mark of the third when his slap shot from the right circle beat Luongo to the near side.

Vancouver made it a one-goal game with 24.1 seconds left in regulation, as Alexander Elder's slap shot from the right point lit the lamp.

However, the Canucks were unable to net the equalizer with Luongo pulled for the extra skater.
