Final Score: Edmonton 3, NY Rangers 2 (SO)
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Sam Gagner scored the game-winner in the shootout to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.
Gagner was the first shooter for Edmonton and his quick wrister was slowed down by Henrik Lundqvist, but it retained enough momentum to trickle across the goal line.
Mathieu Garon then made saves on Scott Gomez and Jaromir Jagr to seal the win for Edmonton.
Shawn Horcoff had a goal and an assist while Jarret Stoll scored the other goal for the Oilers, who have won two of their last three games. Garon finished the game with 29 saves, including stops on all three shooters.
The Oilers are now 11-2 in shootouts this season.
Dan Girardi and Chris Drury each scored a goal for the Rangers, who dropped all three games on the road trip. Lundqvist made 21 saves in the game.
Neither team got on the scoreboard in the first period, as Edmonton had nine shots and New York seven.
The Oilers grabbed the lead with nine minutes left in the second period on the power play. Stoll blasted a shot from the high slot that tipped off the stick of New York's Sean Avery and floated past Lundqvist for a 1-0 lead.
Garon stopped 11 shots in the second period to keep the Rangers off the board.
The Rangers tied the game 8:07 into the third period as Girardi blasted a shot from the right point that tipped off the stick of an Oiler and went into the left corner of the net.
A five-minute boarding major, which included a game misconduct on Ryan Hollweg, followed by a holding penalty shortly after on Martin Straka gave the Oilers a two-minute 5-on-3 advantage and they capitalized on it. Ales Hemsky sent a pass from the left side of the net to the right side, where Horcoff's quick wrister went into the corner of the net with 8:31 to play.
However, on the power play and with Lundqvist on the bench, New York tied the game with just 6.2 seconds left as Jagr sent a high pass from the right circle to the low left side, where Drury knocked the puck down with his glove and banged it in.
