Final Score: Detroit 3, Vancouver 2
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Jiri Hudler scored the game-winning goal with a minute left in the second period, as the Detroit Red Wings edged the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2, at GM Place.
Tomas Holmstrom and Mikael Samuelsson also scored for Detroit, which has won five straight. Chris Osgood blocked 27 shots in the win.
Matt Cooke and Markus Naslund scored for Vancouver, which ended a two-game slide with Friday's 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Roberto Luongo had 29 saves in defeat.
With the score knotted at two, the Red Wings made it 3-2 at the final-minute mark of the second when Hudler came in from the right side and beat Luongo top-shelf for the one-goal lead heading into the third period, in which both teams went scoreless.
Vancouver drew first blood 5:48 into the first period when Brendan Morrison slid the puck across the slot to Trevor Linden, who directed it at Osgood and Cooke poked home the rebound, tying Linden with Stan Smyl for the club record in team assists.
But, Holmstrom answered with a wrister of his own just 12 seconds later to tie the score at one and quickly quiet the crowd.
After Kevin Bieksa jumped up on a Vancouver rush and Willie Mitchell remained on the ensuing 2-on-1 rush, Samuelsson's wrister with only 17 seconds left edged Detroit ahead 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Naslund scored from the slot on a wrister 15:01 into the second period to knot things back up, 2-2.
