NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Carolina

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Scott Walker scored the game winner with 2:10 left in overtime to lift the Carolina Hurricanes over the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3.
Keith Aucoin, Tim Gleason and Sergei Samsonov each lit the lamp for the Hurricanes, who have won four games in a row. Cam Ward picked up the win after stopping 27-of-30 shots for Carolina, which has also won seven of eight.
"It's a big day. We're still in charge of what we do but you look at the standings, there are three teams that need to do something for it to be a big day: Carolina, Washington and Buffalo," said Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette. "This is the way we wanted it to work out."
Carolina now has 79 points and holds a seven point lead over Washington for first place in the Southeast Division. The Capitals fell in Boston, 2-1, earlier Saturday.
Derek Roy scored a goal and had an assist, while Drew Stafford and Toni Lydman each had a goal for the Sabres, who have lost two games in a row and four of five. Ryan Miller received the loss after allowing four goals on 35 shots.
With the point for an overtime defeat, Buffalo improved to 74 points and trails Philadelphia, which topped the Islanders 4-1 on Saturday, by four points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
With just over two minutes left in overtime while on the power play, Eric Staal rifled a wrist shot to the net Walker stood in front for a tip and the puck went over Miller's shoulder for the game-winner.
Carolina opened the scoring with 3:25 left in the first period. Aucoin picked up a loose puck in front of the net and fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Miller.
Only 26 seconds later the Hurricanes took a 2-0 lead. Gleason blasted a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle, Miller was screened and couldn't see the puck as it slipped by.
Roy put Buffalo on the board after he picked up a loose puck in front of the net and backhanded it past Ward at the 7:46 mark of the second period.
Carolina answered right back just over a minute later. Staal took a shot from the slot that Miller kicked out, but the rebound floated in the air and Samsonov swatted the puck into the back of the net.
Buffalo cut the deficit to 3-2 with just under two minutes left in the second period. Dmitri Kalinin took a shot from the left face off circle, the puck deflected off the stick of Stafford and slipped by Ward for the goal.
Exactly halfway through the third period, Buffalo tied the game while on the power play. Lydman picked up a loose puck in front of the net and ripped a wrist shot over the blocker of Ward.
Carolina leads the season series 2-1...Carolina improved to 6-5 in overtime games this season...Carolina will travel to play Chicago on Wednesday...Buffalo will host the New York Rangers on Monday.
