NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at NY Islanders

(Thursday, November 1st)

Final Score: NY Islanders 4, Tampa Bay 0

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Rick DiPietro stopped all 28 shots for his 12th career shutout, as the New York Islanders continued their longest homestand of the season with a 4-0 shutout over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Nassau Coliseum.

Bill Guerin, Ruslan Fedotenko, Josef Vasicek and Trent Hunter each scored for the Islanders, who are 4-2-0 on Long Island this year, and 2-1 so far on their six-game homestand. Mike Comrie registered a pair of assists.

Marc Denis blocked 28 shots for the Lightning, who have lost their last four games and seven of nine since starting the season with three consecutive wins.

The Islanders got on the board 13:29 into the first when DiPietro swatted the puck out of midair behind the net and pushed it along the boards to Michael Sillinger, who centered the puck to Guerin for a slap shot through the five- hole.

The Islanders scored again 12:19 into the second period when Vasicek scored off a rebound with help from Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger kicking the puck through the crease.

Comrie's stickhandling set up the third goal, as he entered the offensive zone with Hunter and Fedotenko. Comrie's shot missed, but Fedotenko was in position to stuff it home for his fourth goal this season.

Hunter's tip-in at the six-minute mark of the third period then capped the scoring.

DiPietro's biggest save occurred nine minutes into the first when he gloved a high wrist shot from in close by Jan Hlavac.

Neither club scored on the power play, as Tampa Bay finished 0-for-3 and New York 0-for-4 on the man-advantage.
