NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Nashville
(Thursday, October 11th)
Final Score: Phoenix 6, Nashville 3
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Fredrik Sjostrom tallied twice as Phoenix doubled up Nashville, 6-3, at Sommet Center.
Martin Hanzal, Derek Morris and Radim Vrbata added a goal and a helper each for the Coyotes, who recovered from a shutout loss in Columbus on Wednesday.
Steve Reinprecht also lit the lamp while Alex Auld made 36 saves to earn the win in his first start of the year.
Radek Bonk scored twice and Alexander Radulov once for the Predators, who have dropped two in a row and lost their first home game of the season after a pair of wins.
Chris Mason allowed five goals on just 23 shots to take the loss, dropping him to 2-2.
The visitors pushed their advantage to 4-1 a little more than a minute into the third on Hanzal's first NHL goal.
Bonk added his second of the game at the five-minute mark by knocking home the rebound of Radulov's initial shot.
Sjostrom restored the three-goal advantage with a short-handed goal coming with 3:13 left in the contest, but Nashville came back less than a minute later with Radulov's power-play tip-in.
With the extra attacker on in the final two minutes, Nashville could not generate quality chances, and Vrbata hit the empty net with eight seconds left to seal the win.
Phoenix took a 1-0 lead with 5:42 remaining in the opening period as Morris' left-point wrister sailed through traffic and past Mason for a power-play goal.
Sjostrom made it 2-0 at 6:55 of the second with another man-advantage score, finishing off a give-and-go along the right boards with Vrbata by ripping a wrister high to the far side.
Bonk brought the Preds within 2-1 on yet another power-play goal. Following a bouncing puck in the slot, Bonk turned, set himself and shot the disc over Auld's glove at 9:41.
Reinprecht gave the Coyotes a 3-1 lead with 1:48 to play in the period when he managed to stuff home a loose puck at the right post.
The season series was split, 2-2-0 last year...Phoenix forward Craig Weller was assessed a major penalty and was ejected for a clothesline on Nashville's Jordin Tootoo with just over six minutes left in regulation...Phoenix finished 2-of-5 with the extra man, and Nashville ended 2-of-6.
