NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Philadelphia

(Tuesday, January 30th)

Final Score: Tampa Bay 4, Philadelphia 3 (SO)

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Vincent Lecavalier scored twice, including the game-winner in a shootout, to lift Tampa Bay over Philadelphia, 4-3, at the Wachovia Center.

Lecavalier's goal through Robert Esche's five hole at the 12:06 mark in the third tied the game at three, and in the shootout period, he tallied the first goal while Philadelphia's Simon Gagne and Peter Forsberg both failed to net the puck.

Martin St. Louis added a goal and one assist and Ruslan Fedotenko rounded out the scoring for Tampa Bay, which has won three of its last four. Netminder Johan Holmqvist turned aside 30 shots in the victory.

Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Forsberg all tallied for the Flyers, who have dropped 10 of their last 11 contests. Joni Pitkanen notched two assists while Esche stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in defeat.

Following a scoreless first period, Tampa Bay took a 1-0 lead when St. Louis lit the lamp during a power play at the 6:32 mark in the second. From just beyond the right circle, Dan Boyle fired a slap shot that deflected off Esche's stick, allowing St. Louis to tip in the puck near the left post.

Less than one minute later, Philadelphia tied the contest on Richards' shorthanded tally. Alexei Zhitnik corralled the loose puck in the Lightning's offensive zone and fed it to Richards, who skated down the right boards and lifted a 44-foot slap shot over the glove side of Holmqvist.

Then, with 1:11 remaining in the frame, Carter gave Philadelphia a 2-1 edge by tipping in Gagne's shot. The goal was the Flyers' second during a Lightning power play, but their lead didn't last long.

Tampa Bay responded moments later while still on the man advantage when Fedotenko took a pass from Andreas Karlsson and one-timed the disc past Esche's short side with 36 seconds left.

Just over three minutes into the third, Philadelphia went up 3-2 courtesy of Forsberg. Following a face-off from the right circle, Pitkanen's wrister deflected off Holmqvist's leg pad and Forsberg was there to redirect the puck in the net.
