NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Nashville

(Tuesday, January 9th)

Final Score: Nashville 5, Anaheim 4 (OT)

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Steve Sullivan scored with 1:48 left in overtime to help the Nashville Predators to a 5-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

In the extra frame, Kimmo Timonen received a pass at the blue line and skated behind the net. As he came out the left side, Timonen flicked a centering pass to Sullivan, who one-timed it over the glove of Ilya Bryzgalov to win the game.

Timonen and Paul Kariya each had a goal and an assist while Marek Zidlicky added three assists for the Predators, who have won three straight and 11 of their last 14 games. Tomas Vokoun stopped 27 shots in the win.

Vokoun made his first start in net since November 23. He had undergone surgery on his left thumb and Chris Mason started 21 consecutive game in his place.

"Obviously the team helped me a lot today," said Vokoun. "They played well. Obviously it's not going to be easy. I was out almost seven weeks. It's the middle of the season and everybody is getting better. Games are getting quicker and teams start clicking. If I want to play I have to do the job."

Dustin Penner had a goal and an assist while Bryzgalov was shelled for five goals on 24 shots for the Ducks, who have lost five of their last six games.

"We finally got it going in the second then in the third we did some things more towards the structured game we have to have to play to have success," said Ducks coach Randy Carlyle. "That's a tough way to lose it in overtime, but considering our start you would have to think there is a positive that we got a point."

The Predators drew first blood in the game when Kariya netted his 14th goal of the season just 3:53 in.

Anaheim answered just 24 seconds later when Chris Kunitz stuffed the puck under the right pad of Vokoun to make it a 1-1 game.

Nashville, though, scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Martin Erat sent a pass from the left boards to David Legwand at the left circle. Legwand then snapped a one-timer that went between the pads of Bryzgalov at the 5:35 mark.

With 2:36 left in the first, Timonen banged in a rebound off a Kariya shot for his eighth goal of the season.

The Ducks made it a 3-2 game when Penner scored his 16th goal of the year, this one on the power play, at the 3:16 mark of the second period.

The Predators regained their two-goal lead when J.P. Dumont's slap shot from the top of the right circle beat Bryzgalov over the glove side 7:14 into the second.

Anaheim, however, scored the next two goals to tie the game.

On the power play, Ryan Getzlaf's shot from the low left side went over the right pad of Vokoun with eight minutes left in the second and Teemu Selanne's 13th goal of the season with 2:30 left in the second made it a 4-4 game.
