(Thursday, January 4th)
Final Score: Tampa Bay 3, Minnesota 2
St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier each had a goal and an assist as Tampa Bay topped Minnesota, 3-2.
Dan Boyle also scored while Marc Denis finished with 29 saves for the Lightning, who have won two of their last three contests.
Mark Parrish and Pavol Demitra each picked up a goal and an assist for the Wild, who saw their eight-game home winning streak come to an end. Manny Fernandez finished with 21 saves.
Trailing 3-1 late in the third, Demitra scored on a rebound with 6:15 left in the game to bring the Wild within a goal.
Lightning forward Andre Roy was then whistled for tripping, but Minnesota was unable to capitalize on the power play. Parrish had the Wild's best chance to tie the game, but his shot from the slot ringed off the left post.
Minnesota then pulled Fernandez with less than a minute to play, but Denis came up with a couple huge saves to preserve the win.
Down a man, Tampa Bay drew first blood 8:42 into the opening period as St. Louis stuffed home a rebound of Lecavalier's shot from the point.
Boyle then skated almost the entire length of the ice through the Wild defense before slipping the puck through Fernandez's pads to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead with 6:08 left in the first.
Parrish scored on a redirection 44 seconds into the second period to cut Minnesota's deficit, but Lecavalier answered with a power play goal with just over five minutes left before the second intermission.
"They have some players that are very skilled," said Parrish. "You can't put yourself in a 2-0 hole against a team like that."
Tampa Bay's Paul Ranger and Minnesota's Mikko Koivu each finished with two assists...Despite the home loss, the Wild are still 17-4-1 at the Xcel Energy Center this season.
