NHL Game Summary - Colorado at Nashville

(Monday, January 1st)

Final Score: Colorado 5, Nashville 3

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Wojtek Wolski scored a pair of goals and Joe Sakic reached a significant milestone with his three assists, as Colorado topped the Nashville Predators, 5-3, at Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Sakic surpassed Paul Coffey for 10th on the all-time scoring list, and now has 1,533 points for his career.

Milan Hejduk, Andrew Brunette and Ossi Vaananen each lit the lamp while Peter Budaj turned away 26 shots for the Avalanche, who snapped a three-game slide.

"I thought we had some contributions from all areas, and good energy on all lines," said Colorado head coach Joel Quenneville.

Jason Arnott netted two goals and Alexander Radulov also scored for Nashville, which has lost two of its last three. Chris Mason made 30 saves in defeat.

"I think they were a little bit more focused than we were," said Nashville's Kimmo Timonen.

Wolski and Arnott exchanged first-period goals to make it 1-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The Avs, though, scored three straight goals in the second stanza to gain command.

Hejduk started the spurt with a tip-in goal at the 2:58 mark, and Brunette scored while falling to the ice on a 2-on-1 5:43 in to make it 3-1.

Vaananen lit the lamp less than a minute later, as he took a Sakic faceoff win and buried the puck into the back of the net.

Radulov brought the home team back within two goals with 7:23 left in the second with a power-play marker. Then, with less than three minutes left in the game, Arnott scored on a back-door feed from Paul Kariya to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Wolski, though, put in an empty-net goal in the closing minute to ice the game.
