NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Dallas

(Saturday, February 10th)

Final Score: Dallas 1, Anaheim 0

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Rookie Mike Smith stopped 32 shots to post his third shutout of the season to lead the Dallas Stars to a 1-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center.

Jussi Jokinen scored the lone goal for the Stars, who have won four of their last five games.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 20 saves for the Ducks, who have lost three of their last four games.

It was a scoreless game heading in the third period and Anaheim almost took the lead a little over three minutes in when Travis Moen sent a one-timer on net from the slot, but Smith came up with a huge pad save.

Moen was called for interference a few seconds later and Dallas took advantage when Sergei Zubov hit Jokinen with a lead pass and Jokinen got behind the defenders and went from the backhand to forehand and slid the disc past the right pad of Giguere for a 1-0 lead 4:13 into the third period.

Anaheim pulled Giguere with over a minute left and had several good chances, but were unable to get any past Smith.

"All I wanted to do was go out there and give my team a chance to win and we got a big two points today," said Smith. "The boys were outstandisng in front of me and we battled for a full 60 minutes today because that's good team over there."

Anaheim outshot Dallas, 10-4, in the opening stanza, but both goaltenders turned aside every shot they faced and the teams went into the second period scoreless.

The Stars turned things around in the second period and outshot the Ducks, 11-6, but again both goaltenders came up big and made several nice saves as the game went into the third period scoreless.
