NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Edmonton

(Saturday, March 17th)

Final Score: St. Louis 3, Edmonton 2 (OT)

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Eric Brewer scored 2:04 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 win over the struggling Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

In the extra session, Brewer grabbed a loose puck at the right side of the net and banged a backhander between the pads of Dwayne Roloson for the victory.

Petr Cajanek and Jeff Woywitka each had a goal and Radek Dvorak had a pair of assists for the Blues, who snapped a three-game slide. Curtis Sanford finished the game with 22 saves.

Kyle Brodziak and Shawn Horcoff each had a goal for the Oilers, who are on a franchise-worst 10-game losing streak.

Roloson finished the game with 37 saves for Edmonton, which broke the franchise record for losses set from March 23-April 9, 1995. Since trading Ryan Smyth to the Islanders, the team's leading scorer and emotional leader, on February 27, Edmonton has gone 0-8-1.

The Blues drew first blood in the contest when a loose puck was picked up by Barret Jackman in the high slot and he dished the puck to Cajanek, who fired a one-timer from the right circle that beat Roloson over the glove with 2:20 left in the first period.

However, the Oilers answered just 40 seconds later when a soft shot by Brodziak went between the pads of Sanford for his first career NHL goal.

St. Louis took a 2-1 lead in the second period when a pass by Dvorak from the right boards tipped off the stick of an Edmonton defender and went to Woywitka, who tipped it into the net for his first career NHL goal with 6:53 remaining in the frame.

Edmonton tied the game in the third period on the power play when a shot by Petr Sykora at the top of the left circle was saved, but the rebound went right to Horcoff, who tapped the puck into the wide open net with 10:02 to play.
