NHL Game Summary - Atlanta at Buffalo

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Ryan Miller made 29 saves to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers at HSBC Arena.
Thomas Vanek had two goals and an assist and Daniel Briere added a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who have won their last three games.
Glen Metropolit scored the lone goal and Kari Lehtonen stopped 28-of-31 shots for the Thrashers, who had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Buffalo scored the only goal of the first period when, on a rush into the Atlanta end, Maxim Afinogenov fed a pass from the top of the right circle to Vanek at the left side of the net and Vanek immediately sent the puck to the slot where Briere redirected the puck past Lehtonen just 6:44 in.
Miller was busy in the first period and made 13 saves while the team killed off three Atlanta power plays.
One goal was only scored in the second period, again by Buffalo which took a 2-0 lead into the third.
Briere skated the disc into the zone and from the top of the left circle sent a pass to Jason Pominville, who snapped a wrister from the slot that beat Lehtonen over the glove with 3:15 left in the second.
Miller again kept Atlanta off the scoreboard in the second and made nine saves.
The Thrashers finally got on the board in the third period when Jim Slater picked up a Buffalo turnover behind the net and centered the puck to Metropolit, who one-timed it over the glove of Miller to make it a 2-1 game just 2:41 in.
The Sabres, though, sealed the victory with a power play goal when Afinogenov sent a hard pass from the outside right circle to the slot where Vanek redirected it into the net for a 3-1 lead with 3:07 to play.
An empty-net goal by Vanek accounted for the final score of the game.
