NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Edmonton

(Friday, November 24th)

Final Score: Edmonton 5, Chicago 1

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Dwayne Roloson stopped 27 shots to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at Rexall Place.

Marty Reasoner and Petr Sykora each had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who have won five straight and six of their last seven.

"We played pretty decently early," said Oilers coach Craig MacTavish. "But we didn't play a good 60 minute game. Had a few breakdowns in the second period. But we're a lot more opportunistic they we used to be."

Mikael Holmqvist scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks, who have dropped three straight and four of their last five.

"I think we're getting away from our system," said Holmqvist. "We make simple mistakes and they take advantage of that."

Brian Boucher started in net, but was pulled after the first period when he gave up three goals on seven shots. Nikolai Khabibulin finished the game in net and gave up two goals on 17 shots.

Edmonton scored three goals on its first seven shots to take control of the game.

Jarret Stoll got the Oilers on the board with a power play goal when his one- time shot from the high slot beat Boucher on the stick side just 2:09 into the first period.

A little over five minutes later Jason Smith brought the puck into the zone along the right boards and from the right circle flicked a pass to the right side of the net where Reasoner flicked a backhander by Boucher.

Edmonton completed the outburst in the first when a shot from the right point by Smith was redirected in front by Raffi Torres with 3:34 left in the period.

The Blackhawks got onto the scoreboard in the second period when Duncan Keith blasted a shot from the left point that Roloson stopped, but Holmqvist snapped in the rebound at the 8:40 mark of the second.

The Oilers increased their lead to 4-1 when Sykora flicked a wrist shot as he was falling down from the left circle that went between the pads of Khabibulin just 4:53 into the third.

Marc-Andre Bergeron's power-play goal with 6:26 remaining completed the scoring in the game.
