(Thursday, October 26)

Final Score: Buffalo 3, NY Islanders 0

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Maxim Afinogenov posted a goal and an assist as the Buffalo Sabres topped the New York Islanders, 3-0, to tie the NHL record for longest winning streak to start a season -- 10 games, set by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1993-94.

The Sabres can break the record against Atlanta in Buffalo on Saturday.

Buffalo attained its first 10-game winning streak since January 4-23, 1984. The Sabres also have a team-record 15 straight regular-season victories, last losing April 7 versus Philadelphia.

Ales Kotalik and Jason Pominville scored for the Sabres, while Ryan Miller blocked all 29 shots he faced for his third career shutout.

Rick DiPietro blocked 24-of-27 shots for the Islanders, who have lost three of four.

Kotalik scored on a slap shot 6:09 into the first on the power play for an early 1-0 Sabres lead.

Afinogenov scored his sixth goal of the year on a breakway. The right winger faked DiPietro to his right and scored stick side 4:12 into the second.

Buffalo also scored on a 3-on-2 breakaway, as Daniel Briere skated down the right side and fed it to Pominville, who knocked the puck in mid-air into the net at 3:27 of the third.

Buffalo finished 1-for-7 on the power play, while New York was 0-for-3.
