NHL Game Summary - Toronto at Columbus

(Friday, October 20th)

Final Score: Toronto 4, Columbus 2

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Bryan McCabe and Kyle Wellwood finished with a goal and an assist each to guide the Toronto Maple Leafs past the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2, at Nationwide Arena.

Michael Peca and John Pohl also lit the lamp for Toronto, which has won two of its last three contests. Andrew Raycroft turned away 23 shots between the pipes.

Manny Malhotra and Alexander Svitov both had goals for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped two in a row. Pascal Leclaire made 23 saves in net, but saw his team go 0-for-7 on the power play en route to the loss.

Toronto assume a 1-0 edge 9:11 into the second stanza on McCabe's first marker of the season, a slapshot from the right circle that beat Leclaire.

The Blue Jackets evened the contest less then four minutes later, as Jason Chimera popped out from behind the net and whipped a cross-crease pass to Malhotra, who punched it in from the doorstep.

The Leafs, though, fired back with two goals in a 34-second span to jump in front, 3-1.

The visiting team set up on the power-play with just over three minutes left in the second and cashed in when Wellwood polished off a tic-tac-toe sequence with a chip shot from out front.

Peca redirected a centering feed from Alex Steen moments later to make it a two-goal game.

Pohl made it 4-1 with about seven minutes remaining in the contest with his first tally of the year.

Svitov capped the scoring with a goal in the final minute of play.
