NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at St. Louis

(Sunday, November 12th)

Final Score: St. Louis 5, Edmonton 3

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Martin Rucinsky tallied twice and Curtis Sanford made 30 saves as the St. Louis Blues downed the Edmonton Oilers, 5-3, at Scottrade Center.

Bryce Salvador, Jay McClement and Lee Stempniak rounded out the scoring for the Blues, who snapped a three-game losing skid. Eric Brewer notched two assists in the victory.

"We played a really solid game all 60 minutes today," Stempniak said. "The big thing was we answered their goals with a goal of our own pretty quickly after they scored. It was a big confidence boost for us."

Sanford, who stopped 13 shots in the third period, earned just his second win of the campaign.

Brad Winchester had two goals and Fernando Pisani also scored for the Oilers, who have dropped five of their last six.

Jussi Markkanen made 25 saves and suffered his second loss of the season.

Edmonton finished 1-for-5 on the power play.

"We just turned it into a game that should have been fairly in hand," Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish said. "We turned it into one where we're right back hacking and whacking in front of the net trying to get a break. It was a tough loss."

St. Louis took a 1-0 lead at the 14:03 mark in the first period when Salvador's slap shot found the net. Stempniak and Petr Cajanek assisted the goal.

Just 42 seconds later, Edmonton tied the game when Winchester used a backhand shot to net the disk. Patrick Thoresen and Marty Reasoner recorded assists.

Two minutes into the second, Rucinsky's wrister sailed past Markkanen to put the Blues up 2-1.

McClement's slap shot gave St. Louis a two-goal edge with 1:21 remaining in the second, however, five seconds before the buzzer, a wrist shot by Winchester made it a 3-2 contest at the second intermission.

Stempniak put the Blues up by two at the 6:08 mark in the third, but the Oilers cut within one just over 10 minutes later with a power-play tally by Pisani.

Rucinksy padded St. Louis' lead with an unassisted slap shot from 56 feet away with four seconds left in regulation.
