NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Vancouver
(Monday, October 16th)
Final Score: Vancouver 2, Edmonton 1
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Sami Salo scored the go-ahead goal with a minute left in the second period and Roberto Luongo stopped 17 shots in Vancouver's 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Taylor Pyatt also scored in the second period for the Canucks, who snapped a three-game skid.
Raffi Torres scored the lone goal for the Oilers, who had a two-game win streak broken. Dwayne Roloson made 35 saves in defeat.
Edmonton will try to rebound from the defeat by hosting the Canucks on Tuesday.
Salo circled behind the net to the left circle before flicking the puck past Roloson.
Luongo made five saves in the final period, which ended with the Canucks facing a 6-on-4 deficit. That's because of a hooking penalty to Jan Bulis with three seconds left, combined with Edmonton's choice to pull Roloson for an extra attacker.
However, Alexandre Burrows won a face-off outside the right circle for Vancouver and the game ended in a scrum.
Torres netted his first goal of the year 2:01 into the second on a rebound off a shot from Marc-Andre Bergeron.
Vancouver tied it at 8:13 on Pyatt's goal. Kevin Bieksa's shot from above the right circle was stopped by Roloson, but Pyatt deposited the rebound in front past the netminder.
Each team was 0-for-6 on the power play...Vancouver has beaten Edmonton in three of the last four meetings going back to last season.
