Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Cam Ward made 18 saves and six different players tallied goals as the Carolina Hurricanes skated past the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-2, at RBC Center.
Carolina jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Justin Williams, Ray Whitney and Rod Brind'Amour while Eric Belanger, Kevyn Adams and Chad LaRose rounded out the scoring in the third period.
Erik Cole recorded his 100th and 101st career assists in the victory.
The Hurricanes, who finished 2-for-13 on the power play, have won five of their last seven games.
John LeClair and Mark Recchi each scored for the Penguins, who have lost five in a row and were 0-for-7 on the man advantage. Netminder Jocelyn Thibault stopped 23 shots.
Williams' tip-in during a power play at the 12:51 mark in the first period put Carolina up 1-0. Brind'Amour and Cole assisted the goal.
Just under five minutes later, Whitney used a wrist shot to beat Thibault as the Hurricanes took a two-goal lead.
Brind'Amour's power-play goal 1:29 into the second made it a 3-0 contest. Scott Walker fed the puck to the right circle, where Eric Staal centered a pass to Brind'Amour, who one-timed the disk past Thibault.
Pittsburgh finally got on the scoreboard two minutes later when LeClair took a pass from Jarkko Ruutu and slapped it home for the goal.
The Penguins cut their deficit to 3-2 when Recchi's slap shot sailed past the stick side of Ward at the 16:42 mark. Nils Ekman and Dominic Moore notched assists.
Belanger scored on a slap-shot goal eight minutes into the third and a short- handed empty-netter by Adams with just under two minutes remaining padded Carolina's lead.
LaRose netted the puck 51 seconds later to cap the scoring for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes won 60 percent of the face-offs...Carolina has won three straight against Pittsburgh and five of the last six matchups...Carolina hosts Buffalo on Monday while Pittsburgh welcomes Philadelphia.
