NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Colorado

(Tuesday, December 5th)

Final Score: Columbus 3, Colorado 0

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Fredrik Norrena made 42 saves to post his second consecutive shutout, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

Anson Carter had a goal and an assist and Jason Chimera and Fredrik Modin each added a goal for the Blue Jackets, who have won two straight.

This was the first time Columbus defeated Colorado in regulation in the all- time series between these teams. Colorado had a 20-1-1 (one tie) record against Columbus coming into the game with the only loss coming in overtime on February 28, 2004.

Norrena made 21 saves on Saturday during his club's 4-0 win over Edmonton.

"This is the feeling I want and have been waiting for," said Norrena. "I am trying to relax and keep my feet on the ground."

Peter Budaj made 18 saves for the Avalanche, who have dropped two straight and three of their last four games.

"We expected to play better, it was disappointing," said Colorado forward Ian Laperriere. "On the power play we have to bear down on the net. You have to give them credit, this is a different team than before."

The Blue Jackets grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when a shot by Ron Hainsey from the high slot went through a screen and was deflected in front by Chimera at the 11:43 mark.

Columbus extended its lead to 2-0 when a shot by Dan Fritsche in the high slot was saved by Budaj, but the rebound went to the right side where Carter swept it into the net with 5:39 left in the first.

Colorado turned up the pressure on Columbus in the second period and fired a total of 21 shots, compared to just four for the Blue Jackets, but were unable to put any past Norrena. A goal as time was winding down staked Columbus to a 3-0 lead.

In the closing moments of the frame, Manny Malhotra fired a pass from the right side as he was falling down, and Modin wristed it from the left circle into the left corner of the net with just five seconds to play in the second for a 3-0 lead.
