NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Los Angeles

(Monday, January 23rd)

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Anaheim 2 (SO)

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Corvo snuck a backhand past Jean- Sebastien Giguere in the fifth round of the shootout to lift the Los Angeles Kings past the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 3-2, at the Staples Center.

Alexander Frolov and Luc Robitaille lit the lamp in regulation for the Kings, who have won two of their last three games. Mathieu Garon made 33 saves for Los Angeles.

"We worked hard tonight," Kings head coach Andy Murray said. "Giguere is a great goalie and we kept working the whole game."

Francois Beauchemin scored both Anaheim goals and Giguere stopped 32 of 34 shots for the Ducks, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

"We played good enough to win tonight," Ducks forward Teemu Selanne said. "It's tough to lose in a shootout. We just have to put this one behind us and go on to the next one."

After a scoreless overtime, Garon stoned Chris Kunitz before allowing goals to Andy McDonald and Teemu Selanne. He stopped Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf on the Ducks' ensuing shots.

Giguere surrendered goals to Frolov and Robitaille before Mike Cammalleri shot wide and Craig Conroy was stopped by Giguere's blocker.

Getzlaf followed Conroy's attempt with a shot that rung off the post to set up Corvo's game-winning tally. Corvo deked to his backhand before sliding the puck past Giguere's right pad.

Anaheim drew first blood 7:47 into the first period after Beauchemin, who was crashing the net, took a pass from Selanne and one-timed it past Garon for a 1-0 lead.

The Kings tied the game 2:05 into the second period after Frolov one-timed a rebound over Giguere for a shorthanded goal to make it a 1-1 contest.

The Ducks regained the lead just over two minutes later while on the power play. Beauchemin blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle that deflected off a defenseman's stick in the slot and caromed through Garon's five-hole to make it 2-1.

Los Angeles netted the equalizer 11:38 into the third period after Robitaille one-timed a pass from Derek Armstrong from on the doorstep past Giguere.
