NHL Game Summary - Florida at Anaheim

(Saturday, January 21st)

Final Score: Anaheim 1, Florida 0

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 30 saves to notch his first shutout of the season as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim defeated the Florida Panthers, 1-0, at the Pond.

"I think we came up with a good effort," Giguere said. "The defense did a great job so I could see the puck. A shutout is a team thing, not a goalie thing and we won the game."

Chris Kunitz scored the game's only goal 29 seconds into the first period and Giguere did the rest on the way to his 20th career blanking for the Ducks, who have won two straight.

"The first shift of the game, we are just trying to put the pressure on them," Kunitz said. "The puck just happened to go in."

Teemu Selanne notched his 20th assist of the season for Anaheim.

Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Panthers, who have lost three straight games.

Anaheim drew first blood after Kunitz beat Luongo high to the glove side with a wrist shot from the right circle. His 10th tally of the season gave the Mighty Ducks a 1-0 lead.

Giguere made perhaps his best save of the game midway through the third period when he stoned Joe Nieuwendyk from point-blank range on a rebound.

Florida pulled Luongo with under a minute left in the game but couldn't sneak one past Giguere.
