NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Nashville

(Saturday, January 21st)

Final Score: Nashville 7, Columbus 2

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Paul Kariya and Scott Hartnell each scored two goals and added an assist as the Nashville Predators stormed past the Columbus Blue Jackets, 7-2, Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Marek Zidlicky had a goal and an assist for the Predators, who won for only the second time in the last five games.

Tomas Vokoun made 27 saves in the victory.

Trevor Letowski and Bryan Berard scored for the Blue Jackets, who lost for the second time in the last three games.

"We took too many penalties and gave up three power-play goals, that's the game right there," said Letowski.

Pascal Leclaire got the start in net and allowed four goals on 21 shots in defeat.

Columbus opened the scoring with Letowski netting a shorthanded tally midway through the first period. Sergei Fedorov sent a shot from the point that Letowski redirected past Vokoun for the 1-0 lead.

Hartnell tied things up at 1-1 less than two minutes later after a centering pass from Greg Johnson hit off his right skate and into the net.

With 31 seconds left in the first period, Kariya backhanded a loose puck from the slot that beat Leclaire for the 2-1 Predators lead.

Yanic Perreault gave Nashville a 3-1 lead 1:29 into the second stanza after deflecting a point shot from Zidlicky in front for a power-play goal. The tally extended Perreault's point streak to seven games.

"We've been good at not looking too far ahead," said Nashville forward Steve Sullivan. "We have been taking care of games one night at a time."

Early in the final frame, Zidlicky and Hartnell netted power-play goals to put the Predators up 5-1. Defenseman Kimmo Timonen assisted on both tallies.

Berard made it a 5-2 game with a power-play goal at 13:13, but 13 seconds later, Kariya netted his second goal of the game for a 6-2 Predators lead.

Six seconds later, Darcy Hordichuk capped the scoring at 7-2 with his fifth goal of the season.
