"We had a great start the first half of the game," said coach Michel Therrien. "We followed the plan really well. It's a tough league to have a four-goal lead because sometimes you loose your concentration, and the other team is taking a lot of chances."
The Devils scored their first goal of the game with a two-man advantage 12:28 in to the second period, as Gomez stuffed the puck past Fleury for his 10th goal of the season.
New Jersey cut the deficit to 4-2 as Zach Parise worked the give-and-go with Gomez, who scored his second goal of the game past the left skate of Fleury with 16:47 left in the game.
The Penguins regained their three-goal edge 6:05 into the final stanza, as Surovy notched his second goal of the game.
Crosby scored his second goal of the game when Palffy fed him a pass and the phenom put the puck in the net past the sprawled out Clemmensen to make the score 6-2 with 5:53 remaining in the contest.
This was Therrien's first win since taking over as coach...The Devils went 1-for-8 on the power play, while Pittsburgh was 1-for-4 with the man advantage...Palffy had three assists...Tarnstrom had two assists...This was the Penguins second win in December.
