NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Florida

(Thursday, December 22nd)

Final Score: Florida 4, Buffalo 1

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Jozef Stumpel scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, while Roberto Luongo made 27 saves as Florida ended Buffalo's seven-game win streak with a 4-1 victory at BankAtlantic Center.

Rostislav Olesz and Olli Jokinen each recorded a goal and an assist to help the Panthers win for the fourth time in five games and prevent the Sabres from matching an NHL record.

Buffalo had won nine straight on the road, just one shy of a league mark held by three different teams.

Thomas Vanek had the lone tally for the Sabres, while Martin Biron had a 13- game win streak in goal come to an end. Biron stopped 26 of 30 shots on the evening.

After a scoreless first period, the Panthers erupted for three goals in the second to take command.

Florida started the session out strong, as Jokinen found Olesz along the boards and he in turn sent the puck out to Joe Nieuwendyk near the left of the Buffalo goal. Nieuwendyk then delivered a feed through the crease to an awaiting Stumpel, who flicked a shot past Biron just 1:27 into the period.

Less than two minutes later, Olesz knocked home a rebound of a Jokinen wrister for a 2-0 lead.

Stumpel made it a three-goal advantage with Buffalo on the power play, taking in a pass from Lukas Krajicek and skating down the left wing before firing the puck by Biron at the 11:56 mark.

The Sabres finally broke through on their fourth try with the man advantage, as Brian Campbell ripped a shot from the right point and Vanek redirected it over Luongo's glove with 3:11 remaining before the second intermission.

Buffalo had an extended power play early in the third period because of a double-minor to Florida's Martin Gelinas, but again failed to cash in.

The Sabres finished 1-for-7 with the extra skater.

Buffalo later put itself in a huge hole when Henrik Tallender went off for hooking and Mike Grier received a delay of game penalty at the same time, giving the Panthers a 5-on-3.

Florida converted the opportunity seconds later when Jokinen one-timed a give from Stephen Weiss through a screened Biron with 4:22 remaining.
