(Saturday, November 26th)

Final Score: Detroit 7, San Jose 6

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Brendan Shanahan scored two goals 1:10 apart late in the third period to lift the Detroit Red Wings over the San Jose Sharks, 7-6, at HP Pavilion.

Mathieu Schneider recorded his first career hat trick and Robert Lang recorded five assists for Detroit, which has won two of its last three games after a four-game skid. Jason Williams had a goal and an assist and Chris Osgood made 27 saves for the Red Wings.

Alyn McCauley had a goal and two assists and Scott Thornton tallied a score and a helper for San Jose, which has lost nine in a row. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 23 shots for the Sharks.

Trailing 6-5 with under five minutes to play, Shanahan beat Nabokov stick side with a slap shot from the right circle for a power-play tally to tie the game. He netted the game-winner with three minutes left in the contest after he poked a rebound out of mid-air with the shaft of his stick past Nabokov for the 7-6 win.

After Thornton netted the equalizer to make it 4-4 early in the third period, Detroit took a 5-4 lead when Schneider beat Nabokov with a one-timer from the top of the right circle while on a two-man advantage.

The Sharks scored a shorthanded goal with 12:05 left after Wayne Primeau beat Osgood glove side high from the left circle to tie the game at 5-5. Marcel Goc gave San Jose the lead back after he scored a power-play goal, his seventh of the year, with just over seven minutes remaining to make it 6-5.

Detroit drew first blood when Williams beat Nabokov stick-side from the right circle for a 1-0 lead. McCauley tied the game nearly 10 minutes later after he gathered the rebound from a Jonathan Cheechoo shot and put it past Osgood.

The Sharks took their first lead of the game after Sturm beat Osgood top shelf glove side for an unassisted goal and the 2-1 advantage.

But Detroit regained the lead after Schneider scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. Schneider beat Osgood with a slap shot with 7:58 gone in the second period before beating him from the slot to make it 3-2 midway through the second period.

The Sharks tied the game once again after Mark Smith poked the puck past Osgood while on the doorstep. McCauley took a slap shot from the left point that was saved by Osgood, but the rebound sat on the doorstep for Smith.

Samuelsson notched his 12th goal of the season after he beat Nabokov with a shot from the point to give the Red Wings a 4-3 advantage.
