NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Anaheim

(Friday, November 25th)

Final Score: Anaheim 3, Detroit 1

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Andy McDonald had a goal and an assist and Teemu Selanne netted the game-winner midway through the third period as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim downed the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 at Arrowhead Pond.

Jonathan Hedstrom added a goal and Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves for Anaheim, which won for only the second time in its last 11 games. Scott Niedermayer picked up his 13th assist of the year as the Mighty Ducks stopped their six- game home losing streak.

"The way things have gone for us lately, we have been working extremely hard and haven't got the results that we wanted," said McDonald. "To beat Detroit...was a huge bonus for us."

Henrik Zetterberg scored the lone goal for the Red Wings, who have lost five of their last six games. Pavel Datsyuk and Jason Williams each tallied their 17th assists of the year on the goal.

Goaltender Manny Legace stopped 9-of-10 shots in the first period before leaving after the frame with a sprained knee. Chris Osgood stopped 17-of-18 shots faced in relief.

"It was a flurry and I went down a couple times and a pain shot through my leg," said Legace about the injury. "(Osgood) came in a played great."

Selanne's power-play goal at the 9:26 mark of the third put Anaheim ahead for good. With Datsyuk off for holding, Ruslan Salei ripped a one-timer from the point that was stopped by Osgood. McDonald found the rebound in the slot, but his follow-up shot was also turned aside. However, Selanne was stationed to the left of the goal and the forward was able to punch home the second rebound for the late advantage.

Hedstrom added an empty-net goal while shorthanded with 16 seconds left to cap the scoring.

Anaheim would net the first goal of the game with 4:40 left in the opening frame. Dustin Penner controlled the puck and carried it along the right side into the circle. He then skated towards the net and fired a shot that was blocked by Legace. However, the rebound sat in the slot to the left of the goal and McDonald knocked it past a sliding Legace for the score.

Detroit would tie it 2:49 into the second period after Datsyuk carried into the offensive zone and slid a pass to Zetterberg on the right side, who then flipped a shot past Bryzgalov for the power-play score.

The Red Wings lost for the fourth consecutive time on the road.
