NHL Game Summary - Florida at Ottawa

(Thursday, November 17th)

Final Score: Ottawa 4, Florida 1

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Daniel Alfredsson scored a pair of third period goals to propel the Ottawa Senators past the Florida Panthers, 4-1, at the Corel Centre.

Bryan Smolinski and Antoine Vermette each added tallies for Ottawa, which has won six of its last seven games. Dominik Hasek made 31 saves in net.

Dany Heatley added an assist to put his consecutive point streak at 17 games since joining the Senators, which is a franchise record. Alfredsson, meanwhile, extended his own personal point streak to 10 games.

Olli Jokinen lit the lamp for Florida while Gary Roberts and Niklas Hagman recorded assists for the Panthers, who have now dropped 10 straight games.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo made 41 saves on 45 shots in the loss.

Florida jumped on top of the Senators 1-0 with under five minutes to play in the opening period. Roberts' initial shot was saved by Hasek but the rebound popped out front to Jokinen, who elevated the puck over the horizontal netminder.

The Panthers would hold that one-goal edge through the entire second period before Ottawa erupted for four goals in the third.

Smolinski got the Senators on the board at the 2:25 mark of the final frame, one-timing a Chris Neil pass from the left slot to even the game at 1-1.

Alfredsson followed with a pair of power-play goals in a span of 20 seconds. The right winger finished a cross-ice feed from Jason Spezza to give the Senators the lead at the 12:04 mark, then followed with a slapper from the top of the right circle that zipped by Luongo for the two-goal edge.

Vermette netted a breakaway goal in the closing minutes to cap the scoring.
