Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Rick Nash netted the game-winning goal in the third period as the Columbus Blue Jackets edged the New York Rangers, 4-3, at Nationwide Arena.
Jason Chimera, David Vyborny and Jody Shelley all tallied for the Blue Jackets, who have won four of their last five games.
Nash also extended his point streak to nine games while Marc Denis turned aside 33 shots in the victory.
Marcel Hossa scored two goals for the Rangers, who have dropped two in a row. Dominic Moore assisted on all three New York goals.
Kevin Weekes got the start in net for the Rangers and allowed four goals on 32 shots.
With the game tied in the final frame, Nash got behind the New York defense and on a breakaway, faked a backhand, and on his forehand, tucked the puck just inside the left post for a 4-3 Blue Jackets lead with 6:38 remaining.
New York pulled Weekes with under a minute to play, but could not net the equalizer.
"It was a great hockey game, it was our most complete game of the season," said Columbus head coach Gerard Gallant. "We got out to an early 3-1 lead and held on after that. Our team played very well. Marc Denis made some key saves."
The Rangers opened the scoring 3:30 into the game with Hossa netting his sixth goal of the season. Moore sent a pass from the right boards that Hossa redirected in front past Denis for the 1-0 Rangers lead.
New York's early tally woke up the home team as Columbus answered with three straight goals.
Just 1:23 after the Hossa goal, Chimera darted into the New York zone along the left boards and stuffed the puck through Weekes' five-hole after crashing the net.
Columbus then took a 2-1 lead at the 7:27 mark with Vyborny sending a snap shot from the low slot, stick side for the power-play goal.
With 10:19 left in the first period, Shelley redirected Ron Hainsey's pass from the right point through the pads of Weekes for a two-goal Blue Jackets advantage.
Jason Ward made it a 3-2 game with 5:12 left in the opening period, firing a one-timer off a feed from Moore past Denis at the right side of the net.
After a scoreless second stanza, Hossa tied things up at 3-3 after corralling the puck behind the Columbus net and then skating out in front and shooting the puck short side past Denis for the goal with 13:04 left in regulation.
