NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at Buffalo

(Tuesday, November 15th)

Final Score: Buffalo 4, New Jersey 1

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Drury and J.P. Dumont had a goal and an assist each as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the New Jersey Devils, 4-1, at HSBC Arena.

Martin Biron made 21 saves, Brian Campbell tallied his second goal of the season and Daniel Briere scored late for the Sabres, who have won two of their last three games after a four-game losing streak.

"You got to make sure you stop the next one coming in," said Biron. "The guys on the ice, they have to make sure they're having their best shift. After you score a goal you keep it going in their zone. The shift after Chris' goal, we were in their end for 40 seconds."

The Devils, who finished 0-for-6 with the man advantage, had their 11-game unbeaten streak against Buffalo snapped.

Martin Brodeur stopped 20 of 24 shots and Scott Gomez notched the only goal for New Jersey, which had a modest two-game winning streak halted.

"We were close and then we took too many penalties, it took it's toll on the guys that we had," said Devils' head coach Larry Robinson. "The ones that weren't killing penalties didn't do the job when they were out there on the power play. We had some chances on our power play and they come up big and we didn't."

New Jersey drew first blood 6:48 into the first period after Gomez beat Biron through the five-hole for the 1-0 lead. Zach Parise had the puck behind the Sabres' net and he tried to stuff it past Biron. The rebound kicked out to Gomez in the slot, who slid it between Biron's pads for the score.

Buffalo tied the game just over three minutes later after Dumont blasted a slap shot from the high slot that went off the crossbar to Brodeur's stick side.

The Sabres took their first lead of the game 7:14 into the second period while on the power play after Campbell beat Brodeur stick side from the left circle for a 2-1 advantage. Drury fed Campbell from behind the Devils' net and he one-timed it past Brodeur for the score.

Buffalo extended its lead to 3-1 midway through the third period after Drury wristed the puck over Brodeur from below the right circle. Derek Roy poke- checked the puck off a Devils' stick and raced 2-on-1 into the offensive zone with Mike Grier. Grier gathered a pass from Roy and fired a shot on Brodeur, but he came out of his crease to cut down the angle and he made the save. But Drury swooped in, corralled the rebound and unleashed a wrist shot that went in just under the crossbar for the score.

The Sabres pushed their lead to 4-1 with 1:30 left in the game after Briere controlled a loose puck at center ice, skated down the right half wall and unleashed a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Brodeur glove-side top shelf for his 11th of the season.
