NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Phoenix

(Saturday, November 12th)

Final Score: Phoenix 2, Anaheim 1 (OT)

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Zbynek Michalek scored the game-winning goal 3:09 into overtime as the Phoenix Coyotes defeated the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 2-1, at Glendale Arena.

Curtis Joseph made 43 saves and Ladislav Nagy tallied his fifth goal of the season for Phoenix, which won for the second time in three games. The Coyotes snapped a six-game winless streak to Anaheim despite being outshot 44-30 in the contest.

With the win, Joseph passed Grant Fuhr, his goaltending coach, for eighth on the all-time wins list with 404.

Ryan Getzlaf score Anaheim's only goal and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 28 of 30 shots for the Mighty Ducks, who have lost four straight games.

It was also the fourth time this season Anaheim went to overtime but failed to garner a point.

With 1:51 left in extra time, Michalek gained the offensive zone, skated into the right circle and seemingly sent a pass to a teammate camped on the far post. But his shot deflected off of Ducks' defenseman Jason Marshall in front and kicked past Giguere's right pad for the game winner.

Nagy put Phoenix on the scoreboard just 1:33 into the first period after he tallied an unassisted goal. Nagy took the puck from behind the Anaheim net and stuffed it past Giguere for the 1-0 lead.

The Ducks tied the game with 6:03 left in the second period after Getzlaf beat Joseph stick-side with a wrist shot from the slot to make it a 1-1 contest. Getzlaf gathered a loose puck in the right circle, skated around a defenseman that went down to block a possible shot and pumped the puck past Joseph.
