NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Colorado

(Monday, January 9th)

Final Score: Colorado 6, St. Louis 1

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Rookie forward Marek Svatos recorded his second career hat trick as the Colorado Avalanche demolished St. Louis, 6-1, at the Pepsi Center.

Alex Tanguay added a goal and two assists while goaltender David Aebischer came up with 27 saves for Colorado, which has now won a season-high five straight games.

Andrew Brunette had a goal and a helper in the win.

Simon Gamache registered the lone goal for the Blues, who have lost three in a row and five of their last six. Doug Weight and Bryce Salvador had the assists, and Jason Bacashihua turned away 30 of the 36 shots he faced in the loss.

Patrice Brisebois got the Avalanche on the board at the 13:40 mark of the opening stanza, unleashing a slapshot from the point that hit traffic in front before deflecting into the top shelf.

Colorado made it 2-0 with 5:09 remaining in the first on a power-play tally from Svatos, who gathered Rob Blake's rebound in the right slot and chipped the disc past the glove of Bacashihua.

Colorado then went up by three goals 8:35 in the second, as Svatos ripped a one-timer from the high slot off a feed from Tanguay for his second power-play marker of the night.

"My linemates did a great job for me tonight. I got some great passes from them, and I got to get some shots up high," Svatos said.

Brunette lit the lamp midway through the third period to make it 4-0.

St. Louis finally got on the board less than two minutes later on a one-timer from the slot by Gamache.

Svatos, though, completed the hat trick with a snapshot from the right circle, and Tanguay added a close-range wrister with just over three minutes to play to complete the rout.

"Any time you give yourself that many scoring chances, there are some that are going to go in," said Tanguay.
