NHL Game Summary - Florida at Washington

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Nathan Horton and Joe Nieuwendyk both scored in the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals at MCI Center.
Olli Jokinen scored a pair of regulation goals and Sean Hill also scored for the Panthers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Roberto Luongo made 33 saves before the shootout in the win.
Horton and Nieuwendyk each had two assists as the Panthers also ended a three- game road losing streak and won for the first time in a shootout (1-2).
Dainius Zubrus scored a pair of goals for the Capitals, who lost for the fifth straight time to Florida. Jamie Heward also scored and Alexander Ovechkin added a pair of helpers in the loss.
Olie Kolzig allowed three goals on 42 shots faced as Washington lost its fourth game in a row.
Brooks Laich lit the lamp in the first round of the shootout after Jokinen was stopped by Kolzig. Horton then went five hole on Kolzig to even the shootout and Ovechkin was stoned by Luongo's right pad. Nieuwendyk then also connected five hole and Luongo turned aside Brian Willsie to clinch the win.
Washington netted the equalizer midway through the third and neither team converted in overtime.
It was Zubrus who netted the goal in the third on the power play. Bryan Muir received a pass at the right point and he quickly sent a feed to Zubrus in the right circle. Zubrus turned the pass into a one-timer that beat Luongo's glove side at the 12:43 mark.
The Panthers fell behind by two goals early, but responded with three straight tallies.
Hill made it a 2-1 game with 2:35 left in the first after his second goal of the season.
Olli Jokinen later tallied a pair of power-play goals to extend Washington to a 3-2 edge heading into the third.
The first goal came with Steve Eminger off for holding as Jokinen recorded his 19th goal of the season at the 10:16 mark of the second.
Just 50 seconds later, and with Laich in the penalty box for high-sticking, Jokinen again lit the lamp on the power play for a one-goal lead.
Washington netted two quick goals in the opening 3:57 for a quick 2-0 lead.
Just 19 seconds into the game, Heward netted his sixth goal of the year. Later on a power play, Zubrus connected for a goal 3:57 into the second for a two-goal Capital edge.
This was the eight shootout this season for Washington (5-3), most in the league...Zubrus' first goal was the 100th of his career...After his two assists, Ovechkin now leads all rookies in total points...Washington fell to 1-3-1 on its six game homestand...The Capitals finished 2-for-9 on the power play and now had a power-play goal in nine straight games...Florida tallied two power-play scores on seven chances...Florida improved to 4-0-0 this season against Washington.
