NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at Dallas
(Friday, January 6th)
Final Score: Dallas 4, Anaheim 3 (SO)
Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Antti Miettinen had the game-deciding shootout tally and also scored in regulation, as the Dallas Stars rallied from a three- goal deficit to defeat Anaheim, 4-3, at American Airlines Center.
Brenden Morrow scored two critical third-period goals for Dallas, which has won two in a row. Johan Hedberg stopped all 16 shots he faced in place of Marty Turco, who was pulled following the first period after allowing three goals on 10 shots.
Teemu Selanne picked up a goal and an assist for the Mighty Ducks, who had a modest two-game winning streak snapped after blowing an early 3-0 lead. Jean- Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves in net.
Dallas' Jussi Jokinen and Anaheim's Andy McDonald exchanged shootout goals during the standard three-round format, sending the game into an extra session.
Selanne started the fourth round with a stuff attempt in the right slot, but Hedberg sprawled out and denied the shot with his leg pad.
Miettinen ended it seconds later, as his snapshot from straight away found room between Giguere's legs to complete the comeback.
McDonald opened up the scoring 5:35 into the first with a power play goal to put Anaheim on top. The center's pass attempt from the left circle just missed its intended target but continued to slide in on goal and eventually past Turco, who did not react in time.
Samuel Pahlsson followed that up with a tally just 1:25 later, as his slapshot from the point found its way into the back of the net to make it a two-goal Ducks lead.
Anaheim made it 3-0 with 6:00 remaining in the opening frame, as Selanne corralled a Francois Beauchemin rebound in front and elevated a backhander past Turco, who was lifted from the game shortly after.
The Stars finally got on the board 3:54 into the second stanza on a goal by Miettinen.
Morrow took over from there, scoring a pair of goals in the final period to knot the game at 3-3. The left winger brought Anaheim to within one on a shorthanded goal just 1:35 into the final frame, then punched in a rebound from the right slot with 6:24 remaining to force overtime.
