NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Dallas

(Tuesday, April 11th)

Final Score: Dallas 3, Columbus 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jason Arnott scored his 31st goal of the season as Dallas withstood a late Columbus rally to win 3-2 at American Airlines Center.

Janne Niinimaa and Jaroslav Svoboda also scored for the Stars, who won their franchise-record 52nd game of the year. Dallas has already clinched the Pacific Division title and is locked into the second seed in the Western Conference. Marty Turco only had to make 15 saves for the win.

Duvie Westcott and Sergei Fedorov each scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation for the Blue Jackets, who have lost three straight games. Marc Denis stopped 23-of-26 shots faced.

After Arnott beat Denis with a slap shot from the right circle just 3:13 into the first period, Niinimaa beat Denis five-hole with a 48 foot blast from the top of the left circle just over eight minutes into the second period to give Dallas a two goal lead. Then, with 29 seconds remaining before the second intermission, Svoboda took a feed from Niklas Hagman and beat Denis five-hole to make the score 3-0.

The Stars needed every goal as Columbus scored twice in the last 2:27 to stage a late comeback bid. Trevor Letowski set up the first goal, passing the puck in front of the net to Chimera a second before he was leveled with a nasty hit. Chimera's initial shot was blocked, but Westcott followed with a slap shot that gave the Blue Jackets their first score of the game. Then, with 1:34 remaining in regulation, Rick Nash fired a shot that missed the net, but made it back out to Letowski, who was stationed to the left of the net. Letowski's shot attempt nailed Fedorov in the chest, but the Russian was able to collect the puck and stuff it in an open net to bring Columbus within one.

The Blue Jackets, however, were unable to score the equalizer as the Stars held on for their recording-setting victory.
