NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Los Angeles

(Monday, January 2nd)

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Dallas 2 (OT)

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Mattias Norstrom celebrated his 34th birthday in style, scoring 2:29 into overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings an improbable 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Lubomir Visnovsky scored twice, including the tying goal with 26.8 seconds left in regulation, for the Kings, winners in eight of their last 10 games. Visnovsky also assisted on the winning goal and Craig Conroy added two helpers for Los Angeles, which scored all its goals on the power play.

Jussi Jokinen and Jon Klemm scored for Dallas, losers of two straight, both against the Kings. The Stars lost by the same score in regulation Saturday in Dallas.

Norstrom's second goal of the season, and the first of his career versus the Stars. came after Dallas' Jason Arnott tripped Michael Cammalleri just 40 seconds into OT.

Norstrom held the puck in the right circle before skating away from the net and blasting a shot high over the shoulder of goaltender Marty Turco.

"Not being on the power play very often, you look at your own power play sometimes," Norstrom said. "I know how tough it is to kill (the power play) shot after shot. We didn't have a lot of shots on that 4-on-3 so I felt if I got the chance, I'll let one go."

Mathieu Garon had 31 saves for the Kings, while Turco stopped 24 shots.

Turco said he never saw the puck on Norstrom's goal as LA's Derek Armstrong was camped in front of the net.

"We're concerned with the way we played," Turco said. "You want to close those out."

Visnovsky scored with just 0.7 seconds left in the second period on a one- timer from above the right circle to pull the Kings within a goal.

Garon then made a few great saves midway through the third and the Kings went back on the power play after Antti Miettinen was whistled for hooking with 1:09 remaining. Visnovsky made the man-advantage pay off. His slapshot went off the glove of Turco, and the puck trickled barely over the goal line.

Jokinen scored with 1:38 left in the first period on the power play on a breakaway after a long pass from Sergei Zubov. The Stars made it 2-0 9:40 into the second on Klemm's wrister from the right circle.
