NHL Game Summary - Ottawa at New Jersey

(Sunday, March 19th)

Final Score: Ottawa 4, New Jersey 0

East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Ray Emery turned aside all 22 shots he faced and picked up his third shutout of the season and his career, as the Ottawa Senators blanked the New Jersey Devils, 4-0, at Continental Airlines Arena.

Dany Heatley, Patrick Eaves, Antoine Vermette and Zdeno Chara all netted goals for the Senators, who have won two straight and five of their last six games overall.

Martin Brodeur allowed four goals on 31 shots for the Devils, who have dropped three of their last four games.

"When you play games like this where you support eachother, I think that's really important and it is something you can look back to and reflect on," said Ottawa head coach Bryan Murray.

After a scoreless opening period, the Senators grabbed a 1-0 lead 4:08 into the second stanza. On the power play, Heatley carried the puck up the right wing and into the New Jersey zone. He then passed the disc across to Daniel Alfredsson, who sent the puck back to Heatley at the right side of the net and he pushed the puck past a sliding Brodeur for the goal.

Ottawa added another power-play tally at the 13:42 mark of the middle session to take a 2-0 lead. Andrej Meszaros fired a slap shot from the right point that Eaves deflected right outside the crease through Brodeur's five hole for his 14th goal of the season.

With just 20 seconds left in the second, Vermette pounced on a loose puck in the slot and let go a wrister that sailed past Brodeur high on his glove side.

Late in the final frame, Chara tallied a power-play goal on a 5-on-3 man advantage to cap the scoring.

"First of all you have to score goals to win a hockey game," said New Jersey head coach Lou Lamoriello. "We have to generate a better offense."
