NHL Game Summary - Minnesota at Vancouver

(Sunday, February 12th)

Final Score: Vancouver 3, Minnesota 2 (OT)

Vancouver, AB (Sports Network) - Daniel Sedin scored the game winning goal 1:26 into overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks over the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at GM Place.

Ryan Kesler and Bryan Allen also scored for the Canucks, who ended a two-game slide. Matt Cooke added a pair of assists and Alexander Auld made 14 saves for Vancouver, which heads into the Olympic break with two wins in the last five games.

Wes Walz had a goal and an assist for the Wild, who have lost two of their last three outings.

With Vancouver leading 2-1, the Wild knotted things up with just under five minutes elapsed in the third period. Walz fired a shot that was saved by Auld. However, the rebound went out to Pascal Dupuis and from the high slot he wristed a shot over Auld for a 2-2 tie.

In overtime, Sedin skated into the zone along the left side boards. He dropped the puck for his brother Henrik and backed in between the two circles. Henrik quickly found Daniel, who wristed the shot past the glove side of Manny Fernandez.

"We had a two-on-one before and I made a brutal pass to Hank, so he was pissed at me," said Daniel Sedin. "I had to put it in."

Fernandez ended with 27 saves.

"You just don't expect it to go as soon as that pass went and you don't expect a perfect shot as soon as that as good as he hit it," said Fernandez.

Vancouver started the scoring 7:56 into the first period when Kesler recorded his seventh goal of the season.

Minnesota tied things up nearly 12 minutes later when Walz connected for his 11th tally of the campaign.

Allen put the Canucks back on top in the second. The goal was his sixth of the season.
