NHL Game Summary - Dallas at San Jose

(Friday, February 10th)

Final Score: San Jose 6, Dallas 3

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek each had two goals to lead the San Jose Sharks to a 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars at HP Pavilion.

Joe Thornton had a goal and two assists, Patrick Marleau had four helpers and Alyn McCauley netted the other goal for the Sharks, who have won their last two games.

Vesa Toskala stopped 24 shots for San Jose, which stopped a three-game slide against Dallas.

San Jose coach Ron Wilson picked up his 400th win as an NHL coach in the victory, which was his 900th game.

Mike Modano, Niklas Hagman and Stu Barnes scored for the Stars, who lost for only the second time in their last 10 games. Marty Turco stopped 28 shots in the loss.

The Stars netted the first goal of the night 6:45 into the first period. On the rush, Jussi Jokinen sent the disc from the left circle to the slot, where Modano one-timed it between Toskala's pads for his 19th goal of the season.

However, the Sharks tied it up with a power-play goal before the end of the first 20 minutes. Marleau sent a pass from the high slot to Thornton in the low right circle. Thornton snapped a wrist shot between the pads of Turco with 4:22 left.

San Jose took command of the game with four goals in the middle session.

Thornton's backhand centering pass from behind the net went off of Cheechoo's skate and into the net 5:54 in. Less than four minutes later, Cheechoo one- timed Thornton's pass into the net for his 34th goal of the season.

Later, Marleau stole the puck at the Dallas blue line and got it to Michalek, who tipped it over the glove of Turco with 5:28 left.

Still in the second, McCauley sent a shot from the left circle that was going wide of the net. But, Turco tried to glove it and it flubbed off of his glove, hit Modano's stick and went into the net to make it 5-1 with 3:59 until the second intermission.

"We got some lucky bounces there and got some bounces off guys," said Marleau.

Dallas did not quit and netted two quick goals to get back into the game.

Martin Skoula sent a blast from the left point that Hagman deflected into the left corner of the net 6:20 into the final period.

Just 36 seconds later Steve Ott had the puck behind the net and a San Jose player hit his stick and popped the puck over the net. It landed right in front of the goal where Barnes put it in to make it a 5-3 game.

However, the Stars were unable to light the lamp again and Michalek's empty- net goal sealed the deal for the Sharks.
